About May/White/Taylor/Layton,Turnage
My name is Billy J. White, and I gathered and compiled this information with the help of some family members. I am 78 years of age and live in rural Lincoln County, Mississippi. My father, Reece May, was born in Marion Co, MS, on 08/07/1901. He lived with his grandparents, John H. and Annie Turnage during his childhood. He moved to Louisiana where he met and married my mother, Carrie Lorena Taylor-09/02/1925. They were living in north Louisiana when the MS levee broke-'27 They had to relocate to Wesson, MS, where he began working the dairy for Homer Vandevender, who owned Dixie Gardens Farm. They brought my mother's parents, Jim and Sallie Taylor, with them from Louisiana. They lived with us until their death. Daddy worked there for the next fourteen years, until he bought some land nearby, cleared it, and began farming. He drove a school bus for several years while he was farming. In 1948 He began working for the MS Forestry Service as the central tower operator and worked there the next fourteen years until he had to retire because of his health. They bought a house in Wesson and lived there until their death. They enjoyed attending Wesson Baptist Church where Mother taught the ladies Sunday School Class for years
